in and around Aseleben

Aseleben is a place amidst the impressive lake scenery of the East-German region called “Mansfelder Land/Suedharz” and offers many leisure options for tourists and nature lovers alike.

The landscape is characterised by the “Suesser See” (Sweet Lake) in the north and the remaining ponds of the former “Salziger See” (Salty Lake) in the south. Flora and fauna around the lake feature many pleasurable opportunities for recreation. Admirers of nature will find a uniquely diverse vegetation mosaic. This and the mediterranean wine- and fruit-growing friendly climate earned the region around the lake the declaration as landscape conservation area.

Neighbouring village Seeburg is dominated by the castle and its Widow’s tower and the reconstructed castle church. East of the castle – on the old cemetary – rises the worth seeing ancient fortified church “Fleckenkirche” (stain church).

Not far from Seeburg you can visit Germany’s northernmost winegrowing region and the only contiguous area of apricot plantations. Most of the winemakes offer delicious local wine tastings in old storage vaults. In your room, you find a leaflet with current events of the “Weinstrasse Mansfelder Seen” (wine route of the Mansfeld lakes).

The Motocross Course Talkessel is located in a distance of 15 km from Aseleben. It runs races such as the International German Motocross Championship (ADAC MX Masters).

The easy-to-spot “Pyramids” are the unmistakable landmarks of the Mansfelder Land. They consist of excavated material from the former copper slate mining industry in the region.
